Can a shop vac or a ridgid emptiness cleaner suck up leaves effectively?

like instead of buying one of those leave suckers for my lawn mower. please let the price and where to buy. and how many leaves do you think it will hold?

I have one of the biggest strongest ShopVac made. I used it the other day to vacuum the leaves out of our tender. It didn't do a very good job. the leaves clogged the hose. I am thinking a "leaf sucker" would do a better job.
