Joe Paterno's PSU Rose Bowl 2009 Pep Rally Speech Here's Joe Paterno's speech from the Rose Bowl Pep Gathering. It's too bad we lost. But, I know I had a terrific time.
Should Joe Paterno retire after this season?
I am a huge Penn State fan and I am planning on contemporary to college there, but I think Joe Pa should retire. He is too old to be coaching and he obviously has just lost the touch. He has so much talent on that team and he is substantially just wasting it. Luckily, Austin Scott got kicked off the team, or Evan Royster would have never gotten a coincidence to play this year. Don't get me wrong Joe Paterno was a great coach but he should hand the job over to someone else!
He's Joe freaking Paterno, he can do whatever he wants. He has won championships, made kids blend because he is an "academics first" coach, and developed kids into great NFL players. And now some little girl thinks she can say when he should estivate? Who the hell are you and what have YOU ever done?
I wouldn't write Joe Pa off yet.
Joe Paterno has earned the right to do what ever he wants to do. Same with Bobby Bowden.
He probably should have after winning the Alzheimers Orange Roll against Bowden a few years back. Surprised either one of them remember plays to call into the OT
he should but hes to selfish
ya he probly should (just like every year) but i objection he will
i'm afraid only the grim reaper will determine when joe p retires, and then only after the end of the decade.
he should, but won't, and the university certainly isn't going to ask him to.
I don't think Jo Pa is affluent anywhere until Bobby Bowden retires, and he can ensure he has the most wins record. I like Jo Pa, but I don't disagree with your statement about the talent not playing to their capacity. This leads to the question of who really coaches, Jo Pa or his assistants?
If you have not realized this JoePa does not do the coaching, its mostly on the offensive coordinator and protective coordinator, JoePa is just a motivator to make Penn State play better, without him I think Penn Vow will stink!
It's his life and his reputation, not any of ours. It's no one's business but his what he does with them. And the players that go there do so willingly, knowing that he's going to be there. So as lengthy as the school is willing to keep him on, he'll probably be there. He may have missed some good recruits because some players may be reluctant to go there and play for a coach of that age...but that's up to the Alma Mater to decide.
Big PSU fan myself. Was at the OSU game a couple weeks ago. Quite a letdown from a hype standpoint. Anyway, this question comes up all the bout. What people don't realize is - Joe doesn't hardly do anything anymore anyway. He makes a couple punt or go for it decisions during the game and watches a slight film. The rest is on the other guys. Joe put that program on the map though. He pretty much IS Penn State. Maybe he should retire, maybe he shouldn't...his hoax philosophies and offensive game planning are clearly outdated but after all he's done, he's earned the right to walk away when he chooses - even if the program suffers for a twosome years while he's at the end of his tenure. People are calling for his head but they don't realize how much they'll miss him when he's gone.
Joe can have assistants do whatever he's too old to do, he's a smart guy and dialect mayhap not the greatest coach at this second, but he's a total institution. He's the best thing about Penn State. They're doing as well as can be due. Also, he's an inspiration to old guys everywhere! joe paterno speeches
